In 2016, Finns spent about 582 million euros on slot machines. However, last year this amount has grown more than three times – to 1.8 billion euros. This is evidenced by the data in the report published by the State Lottery Company of Finland VEIKKAUS, which is also responsible for slot machines.

Finnish authorities are seriously concerned about the increase in the number of residents suffering from ludomania. According to the YLE news service, hundreds of thousands of citizens suffer from a gaming dependency in Finland, mostly the poor population.

According to the Finnish media, the Veikkaus operator most often sets the slot machines in dysfunctional areas in which citizens with low income and education, or unemployed. However, VEIKKAUS noted that they install automata in those areas where they enjoy the greatest demand.

In turn, the Antimonopoly Committee of Finland proposes to conduct serious reforms in the Gaming Industry. In addition, it is proposed to analyze the work of Veikkaus, after which the government must make a decision – is there any a monopoly on gambling business in Finland.
